NAWBO-NOLA held it's May meeting in conjunction with the local FestiGals organization at New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood on St. Charles Avenue. This evening event was called Growing Pains: Taking Your Business to the Next Level. Featured panelists included Allison Civello, CPA with Wegmann Dazet & Co., APC, Mandy Simpson, Owner - NOLA BOARDS and co-owner, New Orleans Woodworking, and Luz Lobos, President of Synergy Design Group, Inc. The business women on the panel were carefully selected for their willingness to share their own struggles and triumphs, but also for their ability to relate those experiences to what the attendees may be needing in their own businesses. The panel was expertly moderated by New Orleans own Stephanie Oswald of WGNO-ABC, News with a Twist. Stephanie is an entrepreneur herself, having started Travelgirl Magazine and is now editor-in-chief.
Allison, who does tax work with her clients, gave us a unique perspective to the entrepreneur experience from working with so many successful clients. Luz and Mandy shared such gems as "borrow money when you don't need it, because you may not be able to borrow it when you do", and "diagnosing issues with a customer caused me to review my processes and get the right resources involved - which meant I had to step away and allow them to do their best work".
New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company took great care of us during the event. We had a beautiful bar in the meeting room and the food was fabulous.
